We R Restoring! As humans we need those moments where we can get healed, get fixed, get times of refreshing, enjoy being restoring back to before we screwed it up. Each of us get tired, we get hurt, we get frustrated, we get sick, we get broke down. For this reason we need to get refreshed, we need to get re-powered, we need to be reenergized, repaired, we need to be restored. But how?
How do we get restored? Vacations are good but don’t last. Sleep and a good diet are good and beneficial but we still get sick and we will all die someday. We saw from last week’s post on Rejoicing that culture, people and things wont make us happy for long…so how do we each fix this problem of needing to be repaired.
The Bible gives a path to finding times of refreshing, a journey to follow that will lead to restoration. We all need restoration and we all need refreshing. The Bible shows us that God gives us restoration…that path begins with coming to God. We call this prayer, we call this time with God. We need to talk to our maker.
What I want to do in is put in your head and in your heart three clear, Bible-based reasons for why and how God gives restoration.
Reason #1 – God fulfills His hope-giving promises in spite of and through the opposition of ignorant people
And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. Acts 3:17-18
This means that when God decrees to fulfill some good purpose for us, no amount of opposition from ignorance or godlessness can stop him. He will simply make all opposition and all ignorance serve his purpose. You must see that we are all ignorant. We are all depraved. We are all sinners and in need for restoring. Because Jesus is our creator, He is the only one that can fix our problem. We must go to the creator and see that it is His hope, His promise and His plan we must embrace for restoration. God fulfills his hope-giving promises in spite of and through the opposition of ignorant people.
Reason #2 – God wipes away all the sins of people who repent and turn to Christ
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. Acts 3:19
The reason God fulfilled what the prophets spoke about the suffering of the Messiah was so that the suffering of Jesus would be the triumph over all guilt. The prophet said, “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed.” So if you repent and turn to trust this crucified and risen Messiah, Jesus, all your sins will be wiped away. This is forgiven.
Forgiven is a beautiful word. “Wipe away” is an amazing statement and is the same one used in Revelation for the wiping away of every tear. We must come to God and admit we are sinners and stand in need of help to be restored. God wipes away all the sins of people who repent and turn to Christ.
Reason #3 – God will one day establish the Kingdom
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Acts 3:19-21
Notice, as you read these final verses, some wonderful things about this future kingdom—our future. First, that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Lord. Then notice that our future will be an age of refreshment as we really will mount up with wings like eagles. In the Kingdom our future will be with Jesus; finally we will see and know him face-to-face whom heaven must receive until the time for establishing all that God spoke by the mouth of holy prophets from of old.
Literally the passage reads: ‘until the times for the restoration of all things.’ So our future will be in a new world like the garden of Eden. Things will be restored. Not just like it. But like it and better! All pain, all tragedy, all catastrophe, all frustration, all futility will be gone. It will be a time of Refreshing. It will be a time of Restoration. It will be a time with Jesus face to face. It will be a time when everything will be Restored to beauty and goodness and truth to the glory of God.
-Restoration comes from the Lord
-Time with Jesus gives refreshing
